Breaking Dawn!

A group of very enthusiastic 7th and 8th graders and a few teachers gathered in the library to discuss Stephenie Meyer's Breaking Dawn on September 24. After a chaotic start, Ms. Russell declared that students could only speak if they were holding a set of vampire teeth. As the teeth made their way around the room, students passionately shared their opinions about the story. Many were disappointed with events and were critical of the ending, while others were happy that Bella & Edward finally got eternity together, while cringing at the thought of Jacob's imprint. Some couldn't get past the name "Reneesme" others were sad that Alice and Jasper didn't have more of a role in the story. Despite our differences, we all agreed that we loved the Twilight series and were looking forward to seeing the Twilight movie, scheduled to be released on November 21, 2008. In the end, students wondered if this really was the end of the series or if there would be more to come... we certainly hope so!

6th Grade Book Club

On Monday, October 22, an enthusiastic group of 6th graders joined me in the library to discuss The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau. We began by watching the trailer for the upcoming City of Ember movie. Afterwards, we discussed the author and than, went on to play an exciting game of Jeopardy, where students had to answer questions about the characters and events from the story. It was fun, although the students complained that the questions were too easy. Kirstie, our Final Jeopardy winner, won an amazing pencil flashlight to help her navigate in the dark.
